Their most successful album, the 1991 self-titled Metallica (often referred to as the Black Album), sold 16 million copies in the U.S. Over the years, they've won nine Grammys, sold over 125 million albums globally, and released hits like "Enter Sandman," "The Unforgiven," and "Nothing Else Matters." With Hetfield as the lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter, the band released their first album in 1983.
